Part of our community is from poor and disadvantaged families and DCOR leadership saw the need to start a project to minister to their needs.
The Child Development Centre was born with the aim of helping children from these families and extending to them the holistic ministry that targets their spiritual, social, academic, emotional, and physical needs.
We later partnered with Compassion International, which funded the project. The project now caters for 300 children. We give priority to the neediest children, paying particular attention to orphans.
We have had success stories of children who were taken up when they were very young and they have now graduated from the project and are on their own, some running successful businesses.
Through these children, we have been able to reach their parents with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
This project is run by a management committee of nine members, and the Senior Pastor oversees it as the patron.
We currently have four full-time social workers who are involved in the day-to-day operation of the project.
Unemployment, poverty, unstable families, alcoholism, cults, prostitution, and large families, are among other social ills that are prevalent in the slums where these children come from.
